Donors - The Essence of Life

Josh Seidner

I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with Leukemia, a cancer of the blood, on September 26th, 2002. It was a hard and painful battle. I owe my health today to the many medicines I took, to the untiring efforts of my doctors, and to the donors of the essence of life, blood. My body took a great blow from all the medicines that I took. My stamina plummeted and I grew very weak. You could see it in my cheeks and lips; they were pale and discolored. There was only one thing that would put the color back in me, and that was blood.

Throughout my treatment I received three blood transfusions. I owe my life to the wonderful and caring people that took their time to donate blood. They might not recognize the value of their deed. I was saved by their actions, as were many of my friends.

I used to compare my transfusions with an oil change. When I was done, I was ready to go and face the world. So today, I want to thank all the courageous people who have given me my life back and who put the red back in my cheeks.
