College Assistance Program (CAP)

History

The Blood Drive program is dedicated to educating and promoting the importance of healthy community service. Blood drives are coordinated at the district level for our students (17 years of age and older) and our staff, both in school and at non-school site work locations. Miami-Dade County Public Schools contract with Community Blood Centers of South Florida (CBCSF). In total, Miami-Dade County Public Schools have donated 17,729 pints of blood and has assisted in saving over 70,000 lives in 2009. The blood drive program continues to be #1 in the state of Florida.

How CAP operates

Community Blood Centers of South Florida, Inc. (CBCSF) donates monies to College Assistance Program of Dade County, Inc. (CAP, Inc.) annually for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) graduating seniors and adult education students who wish to continue their post secondary education. Awards of student grants are based on CAP, Inc. standard criteria, not on individual blood pints donated at schools.

Requirements

Students may apply for scholarship assistance based on the criteria established by CAP, Inc.
